Christian Vonarburg, Linearity – harder, better, faster, stronger, 2025
„The trajectory seems unchanging… Produce, consume, discard. We accelerate, fascinated by the promise of ever more. It leads us toward a wall that we can see looming ahead.
Between the rigor of the line and the unpredictability of chance, the possibility emerges of a movement that is no longer a headlong rush, but a field of exploration — a deviation, a breath of fresh air in the relentless mechanics of progress.“
Christian Vonarburg’s work falls within the field of abstract geometry. It continues research and experimentation linked to the movements of concrete art (non-representational organisation of shapes and colours) and incorporates conventional geometric motifs.
His approach is objective and analytical, based on rigorous construction. Particular attention is paid to the relationships between colours and to direct visual experience.
His research focuses on the motif’s ability to propagate colour. The configuration of the motif, acting as a vector for diffusion, plays an essential role in the structure / colour dynamic, and thus in the construction of form (final content).
Christian Vonarburg participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Switzerland, Europe, the United States, and Guatemala. These include a solo exhibition at the Searles and Spicer Gallery in New York; group exhibitions at the QCC Art Gallery, City University of New York, and the Herter Art Gallery at the University of Massachusetts; a live art performance in La Napoule, France, invited by the University of Massachusetts; and a group exhibition at the Ixchel Museum in Guatemala City. He has also developed several large-scale commissioned and competition-based projects, notably including a „paraphone wall“ along the Fribourg–Bern freeway.
