NINIGI TIGER, Dragon and Tiger, 2024

Artist:
NINIGI TIGER
Eigenschaften (Zeichnungsmethode, HxW, Jahr):
Silver leaf and acrylic paint on panel, je 42 x 41cm, 2024

NINIGI TIGER was born in 1989, into a family with a Shinto priest grandfather and a Buddhist priest grandmother.

„Growing up in an environment surrounded by Shinto and Buddhism from a young age, I began drawing under the influence of a cousin who later became an animator.
Graduated from Tama Art University in 2013 with a degree in Painting. After working as a freelance illustrator, I began my artist activities in 2024.

I aim to create what I believe to be contemporary Edo painting by finding commonalities between anime and Edo painting, blending traditional Japanese materials with modern techniques such as airbrush and acrylic paints.

I focus on animals that are considered auspicious in Eastern cultures, and among them, my representative work, the tiger series, symbolizes „strength“ and depicts a spirit that confronts various calamities, inspiring those who view it.

These two images depict a tiger with its mouth open representing „Ah,“ and a dragon with its mouth closed representing „Un.“ In Buddhism, the „Ah“ form symbolizes the beginning of all things, while the „Un“ form signifies the end of all things. Together, they represent the beginning and end of the world.“
